What is an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)?
An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation performed by a qualified professional who is not affiliated with the school district. Here’s how it works and what to expect:
How to Obtain an IEE:
- Approval and Contract: The school district must approve the qualified professional who will conduct the evaluation. A contract must be signed between the school district and the professional. The cost of the evaluation is covered by the school district.
- Scheduling: Once approved, the qualified professional will work with your family to arrange a convenient time for the evaluation.
- Evaluation Process:
- Review of Records – The qualified professional will examine the educational records, previous assessments, and other pertinent documents to understand the student’s background.
- Standardized Testing – A series of tests will be administered to assess academic skills, cognitive abilities, and other relevant areas.
- Interviews – The qualified professional will interview parents, teachers, and student to gather comprehensive information about the student’s needs and experiences.
- Feedback – After completing the evaluation, the qualified professional will provide feedback to the family and the school district. This includes a detailed report with findings and recommendations. The final report will be shared with both the family and the school district simultaneously.
